Felix Crawls!

Last night, Felix crawled forward for the first time! He has been scooting himself backwards, but finally made the forward transition. The object of his locomotion was his nightlight, which he noticed and then attempted to pull out of the wall socket. His safety conscious parents dutifully unplugged it and it was sitting on the floor, waiting to be reinserted after he fell asleep (so his parents can see when they go in his room to check on him). Well, apparently the nightlight was just too strong of a temptation because he crawled across the room to get it!

A postscript to this blog is that I nearly did not get his first crawl on video tape. At the critical moment, I ran out of tape on my camera. So, I had to use my still camera to record this which explains the poor quality. I'm sure everyone will find it humorous that the video teacher does not follow her own advice to "always have an extra tape on hand"!

Farewell to Satchmo

Satchmo on the boppy with Felix

This weekend we said goodbye to a very dear friend to Nicola and Susan, and a new buddy of Felix's. Our 21 year old cat Satchmo gracefully left this world, moving on to kitty heaven to hang out with his good friend James. We were blessed to have Satchmo in our lives for many years. Though various ailments slowed him down, he never lost that special Satchmo spark. He was cuddly, loving, and loyal like a dog. Felix and Satchmo shared a special bond in that they both required their parents at 6AM and 6PM each day. Like clockwork, Satchmo would be ready to eat (and get his insulin) and Felix would wake up to nurse, or want to nurse before going to bed. We think that Satchmo must have known all along and was getting us prepared to have a kid! We are amazed by how easily Satchmo got used to sharing his universe with Felix. He dutifully moved over on the bed when Felix was there, and never got annoyed when Felix pulled his tail. We will miss him purring under the covers, his scratchy meow, and his love of cantaloupe, cucumber and glasses of water that aren't his own. So long Satchmo, we love you old guy.
