Water Table Talk

Felix recently got a water table from his TX grandparents. A year ago I don't think Susan and I even knew what a "water table" was! Now, it is an essential item in toddlerland.










Felix REALLY likes the water table. His favorite part is when the little palm tree starts spraying water up in the air. Before it is even done, he gets concerned that it is about to stop, and starts saying "uh uh" and pointing at us to make it keep going.














I think he looks just a wee bit maniacal in the pic....in a cute way of course. It's like he is saying, "this water, is mine, all mine".











It may be hard to tell, but yes, Felix is DRINKING the water in this picture. So now, we will be the only family on the block scrubbing out and pouring purified water into our child's water table each day (don't worry, I am kidding). We are considering getting him another one to eat at, since we can't get him to sit at the kitchen table for more than two seconds to eat. We plan to fill it up with soymilk, and each boat will carry a different food - like crackers, cheese, and grapes. I'm surprised it's not for sale in the stores yet as a "Toddler Food Table" (and yes, I did check before writing that)!

Felix (AKA Stairmaster) and Nana on the stairs. Felix likes working out by himself, and in groups on the stairs. His usual workout time is 5:45-6PM Monday-Friday if you'd like to join him.

California Dreamin'

Ok, it wasn't a dream, but it happened during a time when Felix should have been dreaming! Our good friends Rachel and Ann (who live in sunny California) paid us a visit last Saturday night, and we had a lovely evening eating Thai food, drinking beer, and catching up. The only hitch was that Pepicek was having a hard time sleeping, possibly due to some new molars coming in. So, here we all are at 9:30 in the evening, with a certain someone not looking the least bit tired! On the bright side, he got to hang out with R and A, who we don't get to see too often, and show off his new walking skills (which got him in a little bit of trouble the day after this picture was taken)!

Shake, Rattle and Roll

Thanks to everyone who called and emailed about Felix's debacle last week. He is doing much better. He got the stitches out on Friday, and you can see from the picture above that the scar is barely visible now. Let's hear it for the amazing cell regenerating abilities of children! Now on with Felix's banana-peanut butter-yogurt-smoothie preparations....

Felix's Big Owie

On Sunday, Felix took a little tumble while walking around our house, and his head came in contact with the edge of a chair. He ended up with a lovely gash that clearly needed more than hugs and kisses for it to be "all better". So, off we went to the ER at Children's Hospital. After a few hours (that are too sad to describe), Felix emerged sporting a lovely pirate's scar (14 stitches!) over his left eye that makes him look like Mr. Spock.



Besides being really tired for a few days, Felix seems unscathed by the experience; it certainly has not dampened his enthusiasm for walking. The stitches will be removed on Friday-it is amazing how fast babies heal!

As for his moms, our recovery is going a bit more slowly. We are considering a plan to coat the entire house in foam padding; please let us know if you have any leads on organic, fair trade, or locally made materials.

Felix Style

Felix got his haircut last week, we think he would have preferred a french crew, but the bowl cut has to suffice for now.

Northern Lights

Felix and his moms took a little trip up north this past weekend with the extended family. We did the typical northern Minnesota outdoorsy stuff...as much as can be tolerated in a family with different levels of love for the great outdoors. Our activities included hiking, biking, reading the paper-ing, coffee drinking and smore-making. Felix enjoyed it all, of course. Here he is taking a water break after a particularly steep hill on our 5 mile hike. Ironic, considering he was carried the entire way!












When Felix got a little tired, we resorted to a sing-a-long to keep him entertained. Here is Caitlin singing and doing the arm-movements for "YMCA", and Felix following along.


















While the hike got a little long (we like nature, but not too much nature), it was worth it to see the Split Rock River waterfall.

But the high point for Felix was definitely playing peek-a-boo from behind this tree.
