Time Lapse

Last day of school at SCCC

This sounds so cliche, but time passes so quickly.  One moment your child is a preschooler, the next they are in kindergarten. One moment every picture of your child includes a pacifier, and the next they look like a surly teenager.  Felix is about to start kindergarten in a few days, and I guess it is making me a little sentimental.

Pretend Play with Mailbox - November 2011

Today, our good friend Corinth reminded me of made up names that Felix gave Susan, Corinth and myself, about a year ago.  She could only remember that she was named "Cup".  Finally, we remembered that Susan was "Hantrode", Felix was "Elvis", and I was "Elvis 2 (or Elvis Too - not sure which).  For a good while, these names were integral to Felix's pretend play.  Then one day, they weren't. Things shifted and he started playing "Baby Wolf", or some other game.

Selling tickets to a "show" - February 2012

But what was surprising to me, was that I had completely forgotten this memory until Corinth started talking about it.  I think I forget that things that are happening in the present, while real right now, will fade as time passes.  I remember the big stuff - crises, big highs and lows.  But the meaty stuff, the every day play, the jokes Felix tells, etc, don't stick.

Halloween Parade with Liam - October 2011

Hopefully this realization will lead me to writing things down more frequently, especially the little things. Those little moments that seem so insignificant, but are the ones that we joke about years later.  Like my brother Adam and his "Taglets" (magnets in a paper bag), or my sister Caitlin and her imaginary friend "Jabby".  So here's to the little things, the everyday stuff that happens every day, and documenting the specialness of those small moments.

This kitty

Felix with Pickle and Corgi

Felix sang this song to me this morning:
This kitty wants to snuggle
This kitty wants to snuggle
This kitty wants to snuggle
Snuggle Snuggle Snuggle Snuggle Snuggle

While his relationship with Skillet is tenuous at best, he love, loves, loves Pickle unquestionably, and with all his heart.
