Tonight Felix squealed with glee when he found his book "Longjohns" by Kit Allen. We read it to him about 5 times; each time he laughed and giggled and then signed and said "more".Basically, the book details a little boy getting dressed to go outside, and then engaging in outdoor activities. Felix could care less about the outdoor part of the book. He just likes the part when the character is layered with outerwear. His favorite page is the one that says "mittens" and illustrates the boy wearing a pair of red mittens. Each time we read that page he held up his hands mimicking the boy in the book.
I can't help but think that Felix relates to this book because of his own life experience: every day for the past week he has been pulled and stuffed into layers of winter clothing until he can barely walk out the door. Perhaps this book was therapeutic for him!
After storytime, Felix reluctantly went to bed, but insisted on bringing the book with him. He fell asleep clutching "Longjohns" in his arms.
